You have to love a player that slumps with a .708 OPS.

Sickels wrote this gem about Byron yesterday. It has quite a bit of material that you only get from an in-person view. He says in the article that he'd probably have him as a top 10 prospect now; top 5 after some graduations. Must read for fans who have not been able to watch him play like myself.

    From Jim Callis' chat today:

    • Would you trade Carlos Correa, Rio Ruiz, and Lance McCullers for Byron Buxton (which is essentially what Houston did last year)? How about for Mark Appel?

Jim Callis: Realistically, Correa and Buxton are close enough in value that I'd take the package that also gives me McCullers and Ruiz. But my gut tells me I'd want Buxton. Would take Correa and Co. over Appel.

    • If BA's top 100 came out today, could Byron Buxton and Archie Bradley crack your top 5?

Jim Callis: In a word, yes.

I was going to post that same sequence...

    Also of note:

PowerWheels (Crenshaw, MN): How would you rank these teammate tandems for most potential in 5 years: Sano/Buxton, Machado/Bundy, Profar/Olt, Taveraz/Miller, Zunino/Walker & Goldschmidt/Skaggs.
Jim Callis: That’s a perfect question to dive into in more length in our weekly Ask BA column. Please send that to [email protected], include your name and hometown, and I promise to answer it on Monday.

    From Laws chat this week:

You buying into any of this superstar-level hype Buxton is receiving? As a Twins fan, I want to, I just don't know if I should get too worked up over a month of low-A ball.
    Klaw (12:24 PM)

Best prospect in last year's draft, so not just hype.

    That's a good question. I'd say
    1 Tavaras/Miller
    2 Machado/Bundy
    3 Goldschmidt/Skaggs
    4 Sano/Buxton
    5 Profar/Olt
    6 Zunino/Walker

    That speed is ridiculous.

Not a bad way for Mr. Buxton to end the game tonight in Cedar Rapids.

You can't even see where the ball comes down on that homer. Incredible.

I've listened to the pop of that grand slam contact about 10 times, now. It's a true thing of beauty...CRACKKK!

For fans of Byron Buxton, here is a recent story in the Des Moines Register about his life in Low-A ball.

I think of Buxton as a right handed Barry Bonds with less power and more speed but very similar skill set. That's really saying something. Then you add in how much better Buxton's character seems to be and you'd have to say the sky is literally the limit.

So almost like an early Barry Bonds?

Tweet from Star Tribune's Phil Miller:

Twins have date in mind for Byron Buxton's promotion, Asst GM Rob Antony said. "If everything continues to go way it has, it won't be long."

It appears young Mr. Buxton may have "figured out" High-A pitching. Check out his last 8 games:

    40 PA | 12H (6-1B, 3-3B, 3-HR) | 8-BB 9-SO | .375/.500/.844

Overall A+ line is still a respectable .278/.348/.468 but his current stretch of dominance is remarkable.

    SSS alert!

One of the weirdest splits I have ever seen is Buxton's home/road games at high A...

In 14 games at home (in a large ML spring training ballpark) he has a SLG of .661 and an OPS of 1.092! However, in 16 games on the road he has a SLG of only .299 and an OPS of .575!

I don't know if this is part of the reason, but you could imagine that the training staff could make playing without a toenail a lot easier at home!

Buxton's last 23 games as the only 19 year old in the FSL:

    105PA - 9EBH - 16BB - 20SO - 17SB - 5CS - .398/.495/.614

    Fuhhhhhhhhhhh.............
