Best to let Yogi explain another season like the last :
Think about we could lose 96 games again and we went 9-1 against the Brewers and Astros.
IMO we are in worse shape after this year than we were after last. More question marks and more players showing they don't belong. Sorry that was kind of serious. I'll go back in my corner now!"WAR, what is it good for? Absolutely nothin'!" Edwin Starr

Maybe Gardy is doing all this and more. And obviously the Twins had some players who lack potential. But I keep wondering whether better managing and coaching might have resulted in an overall better attitude and more than a few additional wins.

That last play proves to me that Plouffe can play good defense, when his head is in the game.

I had some hopes for a nice game by Diamond to close out the season. First three batters reaching base, two runs in, and there goes that theory.
I still hold some hope for a few of the players given lengthy tryouts in 2013, but I believe Ryan needs to cut ties with most of the clutter that is on this 40-man roster. Preferably by 3-for-1 trades to get some minor leaguers with upside, but DFA if need be. 2013 was supposed to be about finding out what we've got, and the answer (at the 40-man roster level) is "not much".

Comment 3--I am a Diamond fan and his regression was predictable. However, for him to fall so far, so fast, is astonishing. I think his arm was and may still be less than 100% and I think he will be in the rotation next year with results closer to 2012 than 2013. He's got enough stuff to be effective, but he does need command and good defense.

Comment 4--Gardy! He will miss out on 1000 wins for the Twins. While his moves and methods have been panned here, I think he's done a good job with flawed team. That said, I think it is time for a new voice and new emphasis. Gardy and his guys will find jobs somewhere else, I imagine, and it could be a win-win for Gardy and the Twins.

IMO Gardy really needs to take a year off, do some TV work and get himself in better shape. His brother died of a heart a few years ago and Gardy is working on his own.
Recharge his batteries, in better shape he'll have more energy and have no problem getting another job."WAR, what is it good for? Absolutely nothin'!" Edwin Starr

I may be totally wrong, but it seems to me that if we could somehow transplant Punto's brain into Plouffe's body we could have a player with HOF potential.

Comment 5--Mauer. He's going to finish second in the AL in hitting. He remains a great hitter, but despite his reluctance I think it is time to hand him a first baseman's mitt and say "this is your position". While he wouldn't be as valuable as a great-hitting, modest power, 1B, getting 150 games per year would make up for the loss of value.

Comment 6--Terry Ryan (JR for you BYTOers). The man knows baseball, and he is more of a straight shooter than almost any GM. However, I question whether he is the man to guide this franchise for the next ten years. A quote originally about Calvin Griffith comes to mind: "he throws quarters around like they are manhole covers". If he considers the 3-$21M contract for Willingham a "huge contract", he is not going to acquire or keep premium talent, especially pitching. Also, I think he might be too loyal to the guys below him in the organization. I believe it is time to clean house and let the new talent come in. Uh-oh, Mrs. Stringer is calling and I will miss the rest of the game. Enjoy!

A 1-hitter for my birthday*? How did you know what I wanted!
*Yes, my actual birthday. Also my twin boys' birthday."Maybe you could go grab a bat and ball… and learn something. Maybe you will get it."

On the other hand, if I had time I would like to work with some engineers to develop a catcher's helmet that absorbs more of the energy from a fouled baseball. The shock absorbers on a car absorb a lot of energy and it seems to me that the same principal (and other principals of physics) could be applied to make catchers' helmets a lot better.
