    Pedro Hernandez Outrighted

According to the Twins transaction page (at TwinsBaseball.com), the Twins have outrighted Pedro Hernandez to AAA Rochester. It says that the transaction occurred on Friday, though the Twins have not issued any formal press release on it.

The timing may or may not be interesting. With the World Series nearly complete, players can become free agents right after the final game's final out. That includes minor league free agents. I can't help but wonder if the Twins will announce that a player (maybe Edgar Ibarra?) will be added to the 40 man roster so that he can't become a free agent. Could be others, possibly, or it could be just to clear space. Speculation is fun.

The Liriano trade continues to prove a fantastic move for the Twins.

I think it's a moot point. Whether the Twins traded Liriano or not, I don't see them resigning him last winter.

Agree with Brock. He was gone, and the rolled the dice. It did not come up with the results they wanted, but they tried. I'd rather they tried, then just let him walk for no chance at something.
    Lighten up Francis....

Wow, taking ever chance to rip the FO aren't we? I think you're ignoring just how bad Liriano pitched for the White Sox. That was worth the trade all by itself.

This is probably good news for Brian Duensing, who was shaping up as an iffy candidate for arbitration. Hernandez looks to me like a guy with potential to be a solid lefty specialist out of the bullpen. Career 16/1 K/BB ratio in 72 PA against lefties in the majors.

When they make what I think is a bad move, I say so. I said so last year when they traded Liriano instead of extending him, and I think this is just more proof it was a bad move.

Removing him from the 40-man isn't a sign that his time is over with the Twins, so the "Liriano trade talk" seems out of place. It's good that the Twins are juggling the 40-man roster in order to add appropriate players . . .

35 on the 40-man roster right now, though Mike Pelfrey, Eric Fryer, BJ Hermsen, and Darin Mastroianni are still on it. It could (should) drop right there to 31. Let's say they add two starting pitchers. That means seven spots for inclusion: Achter (next guy for bullpen help), Kepler (too good), Polanco (too good), Vargas (good enough), Darnell (perhaps next guy for rotation help) and some two of Wimmers, Oliveros, Ibarra, Watts, and Beresford.

I would have been fine with extending him (or resigning him) as well, but I'll be real honest in that I highly doubt he pitches as well as he did for Pittsburg in Minnesota. If there was anyone that you could point to and say "he needs a change of scenery" it was Liriano.
