Thread: Question about BA and ESPN vs MLB scouting departments.

Although the thread is interesting one little fact keeps bugging me. The accuracy of the work. Baseball scouting is such an inexact science. I looked at the 2005 draft first round. The top 10 players selected were ok to stars, after that it got spotty. Hard to predict what a draftee will do. Randomly I picked 2008. MLB.com top 50 of all of baseball. Impressive list. Great year. Number 7 played in the majors for the first time that year, bust at best. So even when they are major league ready, scouting major league success is hard.

BA & ESPNs rankings are purely based on what they percieve as their talent/projections. Some MLB teams draft according to signability (MN has already admitted this for this draft).

Thanks for adding, got tired so I stopped @ 10.....after round 10, they can only sign for 100K unless they have $$ left from the original 12m pot for picks 1-10. Signability could be why they dropped
